Hey guys! As promised, here comes the first of the many weekly updates to come for the next few months! In this weeks blog, I'll be going over all of the projects that I'll be taking part in for this trimester at uni and giving brief descriptions of each of them, lets jump in!
Post Production - audio to video
In my last trimester at uni, I did a sound replacement with my good friend Richard on a short horror film known as 'Lights Out'. In this trimester, I'll be taking on a similar but slightly larger project with two more of my friends - Yasmin and Jackson! This will be a 2 -3 minute sound replacement from a film excerpt or gameplay footage (yet to be decided) and will consist of foley recording, ADR and the composition of background music to suit the film. These jobs will be split evenly among the 3 of us with one of us primarily focusing on musical composition to ensure that it is moving at a steady place along with the sound replacement. As myself and Jackson are actually studio production majors, the composition of the background music will mainly fall on our shoulders along with assisting/performing foley and ADR. As Yasmin specialises mainly in post production and projects relating to it, she will be in charge of the main mix for the project overall while Jackson and I assist. In terms of mastering, this may be passed on to another student from our cohort unless we decide to master it ourselves which is obviously still undecided as this project is yet to begin.
Future Bass Collaboration with INSERT_NAME
As I've mentioned in many previous blogs, working with Richard has always been a pleasure and so much fun. Well, surprise surprise, we're back again for yet another song for you guys! This one is going to be more or less a retake of our last track together as we were put under difficult circumstances and wound up having to spit something out in minimal time which both of us weren't overly happy with. Since then, both of us have grown a lot as electronic producers and audio engineers in general and we are ready to put our skills to the test once again. This song will be an original future bass track with myself on acoustic guitar and songwriting duties as well as sourcing a vocalist! The reference track we will be using is a song known as 'Uncover You' by Fairlane and can be found below:

Tracking for Kevin Barber's upcoming Electronic/Alt Rock EP
This one is probably going to be the smallest of my workloads during this trimester as I'm merely assisting in tracking for Kevin whilst he performs and mixes 4 of his own original songs. In terms of my impact on this project, there really isn't much besides the methods as to how we actually record it.
Main focus Project - Chase Johnstone 4 track EP
This one is something I've wanted to do for a while, Chase is a good friend of mine from my hometown and is also someone I have recorded previously. However, the last time I recorded him I was merely beginning in my studies in audio and was quite an amateur with everything in general. Since then, chase has grown a lot as an artist, writing new songs and gaining more and more experience both in and out of the studio whilst I have also grown a lot as an audio engineer and music producer. This time around, instead of recording a mere 1 track, I'll be recording and mixing 4 of his tracks with the assistance of Richard being my recording engineer. Once these tracks are all mixed, I'll be handing them off to someone else in my cohort (yet to be determined) to master them as acoustic mastering is something that I'm not overly confident with yet.
To finish
With all of this in mind, these next few months are shaping up to be massive and in order to complete all of this, my organisation skills are going to have to be on point. In comparison to my last trimester at uni being very work experience based, this one is going to be strictly project based with me challenging myself to get as much work as I can get done and in the greatest quality possible. Keen to get to work, until next time, catch ya later!
