Live Sound - Mekka Races Brisbane

Coming back in hot with the fourth blog of the day! I know right, who even am I today?! Seems I have a lot of pent up experiences I've been meaning to share with you guys and today just happens to be the day I do that! This one in particular is about my recent experiences in being part of the Live Sound Crew for one of the stages on the Mekka Race day in Doomben, Brisbane recently! Lets get right to it!

Early starts...

In order to beat the crowd and have the DJ up and playing before people got in we (unfortunately) had to hustle for an early start and get the ball rolling as soon as possible. There were 3 Audio students chosen from SAE Institute, myself being one of them and the other two being recent graduates of the Bachelor of Audio degree. Being only a trimester 4 student in this degree I felt rather special for the fact that I was given this opportunity and the others were already finished. This also managed to motivate me to move as fast as I could on the day as I didn't want to be shown up by anyone!

Things that stood out

The live sound organisation I had the privilege of working with on the day were none other than AU Music Productions and the boys out there that morning were just top blokes having a good time. Honestly, it was more fun than work, not meaning that I did nothing but more so to the fact that the banter was that good that one second we would be setting up and the next we were done! Another really crazy and interesting aspect that stood out was that I actually got to set-up and test professional Pioneer CDJ2000-NEXUS2's for the first time ever. As a DJ myself it was like I was in heaven, looking at this gear and thinking to myself - "I'm gonna be spending a lot of time behind and around these in my career" was just an awesome thought to have and I've posted more pics of these below!

A Beautiful day for it...

Overall, this was a wicked experience and to think that this is a genuine job that I can spend my life doing is just unreal. I can't wait to be a part of more events like these in the future and perhaps challenge myself even more with more complex sound systems, gear and live acts to set up next time!
