Alllrighty guys! Jumping straight back in with the fourth blog of the week! This time introducing my first side project ever with the amazing and talented Maori Kinjo! Ever since I started my audio degree I've been wanting to produce music, specifically to produce house music and write songs. When the time came around to write my first official song I just happen to be so lucky as to be living in the same college as Maori! Super keen to let you guys know how this comes along in the coming weeks! Considering that this blog is very similar to my intro to project 2, I will be going over more of an outline of the songs main attributes such as the theme and genre!
Firstly - the theme
At first, this was more of a difficult decision to make as I wanted the theme to be decided based on something we could both relate to, which I wasn't really sure as to what that was yet. However, after getting to know Maori better I came to realise that, because we were both students living away from home, we tend to get homesick from time to time. I figured this would be a great theme for a song as it holds a lot of sentimental value for the both of us and the lyrics would come rather easily. Once I established the theme of the song, the next step was classing it in the right genre.
the song's genre
Considering that I just started producing electronic music recently, I want to take as many opportunities as I can to practice and expand on my abilities. Therefore, I decided that the genre was going to be a more chill electronic/acoustic vocal track. I've heard plenty of songs like this before and the instrumentation doesn't seem to be too complicated, which is rather beneficial in my case. Maori also agreed with this and once we decided on the theme and genre, it was time to find a reference track to base it off!
the reference track
The reference track we decided to go with was Pilton's remix of Round & Round by The Spacies. We both felt like this song was relatable to some extent and also gives off a very emotional feel which is exactly what we're going for in this project. It's also based in a very similar genre as to what we're aiming for. I've listed the song below for those who are interested in listening to it!
To finish
To say I'm keen to write this song with Maori is an understatement as this has been something I've wanted to do for a long time! Super excited to see where it will go and to take you guys every step of the way! As usual, watch this space and stay tuned! Until next time!
